Climate Resilience and Adaptation

Dealing with the impacts of climate variability is a challenge for our whole community. We need to prepare for increasing variability in our region’s climate and make ourselves more resilient to extreme weather.

It’s never been more important to get together as a community and help each other manage and bounce back from climate-related challenges.

Extreme weather

Extreme weather events include higher temperatures, different rainfall patterns, and more frequent or intense storms, heatwaves, droughts, floods and bushfires. They affect everyone – especially people who are very young, old, poor or sick – and put extra strain on our health system and emergency services.

Climate variability

Climate variability also affects the natural environment, as ecosystems need to adjust to changes in rainfall, temperature, drought and fire. This in turn affects businesses in sectors like agriculture and tourism that rely on natural ecosystems.
