Social Media House Rules

We have set some rules for our social media channels to make sure they are positive and useful for our community.

AlburyCity are committed to upholding and promoting the following principles of social media engagement:

  • Openness - our social profiles are a place where anyone can share and discuss issues that are relevant to our council and the cummotu we represent and serve.
  • Relevance - we will ensure our social media platforms are kept up to date with informative content about our council and community.
  • Accuracy - the content we upload onto our social media platforms with be a source of truth and we will prioritise the need to correct inaccuracies if/when they occur.
  • Respect - our social profiles are safe spaces, and inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.

Monitoring

By using or posting on the AlburyCity social media channels, you are accepting the AlburyCity ‘house rules’.

We developed these rules for use of our social media channels to ensure they remain a positive experience for all members of our community. Our channels include:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • YouTube
  • LinkedIn

Hours of operation

AlburCity social media profiles are monitored between 8.30am to 5pm during council business hours on weekdays only (except for emergencies).

We welcome your comments and questions on our social media channels. If appropriate, we’ll respond to you within 1 business day.

Appropriate content

We ask our AlburyCity Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn communities to apply a common sense approach when:

  • making comments or responding to posts
  • posting information to our wall, including photos
  • commenting underneath a AlburyCity post
  • tagging the AlburyCity account in a post or tweet

We moderate our AlburyCity social media pages, and any comments, links, photos and videos deemed inappropriate will be ignored and monitored. If necessary, we may hide or delete them.

What is inappropriate content?

Inappropriate content includes information that is:

  • inflammatory
  • Defamatory, offensive, humiliating or intimidating
  • Contains profanity
  • commercial or promotional
  • spam
  • overtly party political
  • encouraging activities illegal in Australia
  • considered bullying and harassment
  • transgressing copyright or intellectual property (IP) laws
  • compromising a person’s privacy or personal details (for example, a phone number)

If our moderators deem content inappropriate we may remove that content, in which case we will keep a record of it and notify the person who posted the content and explain why it has been removed. If we feel that a person's content violates our social media policy we may ban or block that individual. Before a ban or block is actioned Council will aim to notify the person of the intention to ban.

Privacy

When you use AlburyCity social media pages, you are using an external site. You are therefore bound by the privacy principles of that site. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of that site for further information. AlburyCity does not endorse, and is not accountable for, any views expressed by third parties using that site.

Record keeping

We record all information posted to the AlburyCity social media channels and use that information for administering the channel's:

  • record keeping
  • considering and/or addressing any comments made

No attempt will be made to further identify social media subscribers except where requested and authorised by law.
