Uiver Memorial Community Trust Open Day

Uiver 90th Anniversary

To mark the 90th Anniversary of the landing of the Uiver at Albury, the Uiver Memorial Community Trust are holding a special Open Day on Saturday, 26 October 2024 in their hangar at 7 Bristol Court, Albury Airport.

The event will feature the launch of the newly translated English edition of In Drie Dagen Naar Australië, a rare 1935 book written by Koene Parmentier, the Captain of the Uiver. This new English edition, To Australia in Three Days, will be launched by the Netherlands Ambassador to Australia, Mrs Ardi Stoios-Bracken at 10:30am.

The book gives a rare insight into the Uiver’s participation in the air race - a precursor to the international air travel we know today - and an almost minute-by-minute commentary on the drama that unfolded over Albury on that stormy night in 1934. It will be available for purchase on the day at $40.

To Australia in Three Days comprises 320 pages, including 15 diagrams and maps, 109 photographs, and a new foreword by Dick Smith AC. It will be available to Australian and International purchasers from 27 October via the website.

At the 90th Anniversary Open Day there will be a display of vehicles by Antique Car Club Albury Wodonga, Live music by Albury Wodonga Ukulele Group (11:30am and 1:00pm), a Rotary Club BBQ, and great coffee by Navy Brew. At 2:00pm aviation historian David Crotty will give history talk on the 1934 Air Race and the Uiver landing at Albury.

There will also be a LEGO® display by Bricks on the Border, displays by Twin Cities Model Aero Club, Albury LibraryMuseum, Albury and District Historical Society, Children’s activities, and Uiver merchandise for sale.

Doors open 10:00am, concludes 3:00pm. Entry by donation at the door $10pp, under 16 FREE.
