AlburyCity is rapidly growing. It has sustained a population growth of more than 1.5% annually for the past five years, with projections indicating an ongoing increase of 1,000 people - or 400 dwellings per year.

To continue to grow sustainably, the city must have the necessary infrastructure to support future needs.

We are undertaking the long-term planning to effectively grow the city for our future needs, ensuring essential infrastructure keeps pace with growth, demand and community expectations.

Key documents that will shape Albury's growth and future-proof our essential infrastructure include the draft Albury Water Infrastructure Master Plan, the draft Albury Wastewater Infrastructure Master Plan, Draft Social Infrastructure Strategy and the revised Thurgoona Wirlinga Precinct Structure Plan which provide a structured approach in the areas of land use and infrastructure. Together, these documents will play a key role in the future of the city over the next 20 to 50 years. They form part of Council’s long-term commitment towards Securing Albury’s Future - Together, supported by a range of strategic projects and plans.

They will ensure Council can plan effectively for future needs, ensuring essential infrastructure keeps pace with growth, demand and community expectations as the Council faces twin challenges of ageing infrastructure and a fast-growing population.

Sustainable transport networks

We are undertaking a range of capital works and advocacy initiatives to improve access to transport networks, reduce travel times, enhance connectivity and streamline traffic flow.

Growing Thurgoona Wirlinga

The Thurgoona Wirlinga area is Albury’s primary growth zone, covering an area of 4,590 hectares which is about 15% of the whole of Albury. The Thurgoona-Wirlinga Structure Plan coordinates growth and development within the area, guiding decisions on where and when roads, parks, housing, shops and schools will be located.

Our projects

Kerr Rd Infrastructure Upgrades

We’re installing new essential services infrastructure to support the growth of Thurgoona-Wirlinga. This project from Thurgoona Drive to the creek crossing near Brooklyn Fields includes installing a new sewer and water pipelines and road upgrades.

Main Sewer Pump Station and Rising Mains

We’re building a new sewage pump station at our Wodonga Place depot and upgrading sewer pipelines to the Waterview treatment plant to support our growing city for the next 100 years.
