Lost and found animals

Contact us if you have found a stray animal or your pet is missing. We'll make every effort to reunite you and your pet if they're picked up by one of our rangers.

If you find a lost dog or cat

Try to contact the owner if the dog is wearing a collar and identification tag.

Please note: rangers can not attend after hours call-outs, unless the dog is contained. Rangers will not usually pick up stray animals between the hours of 7pm-7am.

  • The information on the microchip will help us contact the owner and return the dog to them.
  • If the dog doesn't have a microchip or registration, or if the owner can't be contacted, a ranger will take the dog to the Albury Animal Care Centre.

It is illegal to hold an animal that is not yours on your property for longer than is necessary.

For more information about the identification and registration of companion animals and for the duties and responsibilities of their owners, please read the NSW Companion Animals Act, 1998.

Our Rangers will make every effort to return lost pets to their owners.

Impounded animals

As per legislation, dogs and cats impounded in NSW are kept at the Centre for fourteen (14) days if they are microchipped, and seven (7) days if they are not microchipped. All animals impounded from Victoria, (microchipped and non-microchipped) are kept for eight (8) days.

This gives owners a chance to come forward. If the animal is not claimed within the statutory holding period, they may then become available for adoption. For more information about adoptions, please read our Adoption page.
