Impounded animals
As per legislation, dogs and cats impounded in NSW are kept at the Centre for fourteen (14) days if they are microchipped, and seven (7) days if they are not microchipped. All animals impounded from Victoria, (microchipped and non-microchipped) are kept for eight (8) days.
This gives owners a chance to come forward. If the animal is not claimed within the statutory holding period, they may then become available for adoption. For more information about adoptions, please read our Adoption page.
For more information about the identification and registration of NSW companion animals and for the duties and responsibilities of their owners, please read the NSW Companion Animals Act, 1998.
