A Changing Places facility is a specialised type of public bathroom designed for people with disability who require extra space and equipment to manage their personal care needs. These facilities are typically larger than standard accessible restrooms and include a range of features and equipment such as adult sized changing table, a hoist system to lift and transfer people who use wheelchairs, a toilet with space for a caregiver, a shower and a height adjustable sink.
Changing places facilities are designed to be more inclusive and provide greater accessibility to people with physical disability. These individuals are often require more space and specialised equipment to maintain their personal hygiene and standard accessible restrooms do not always meet their needs.
AlburyCity opened its first Changing Places at National Foresters Grove, Lavington in May 2023.
The second Changing Places at Hovell Tree Park is now open.
In order to access a Changing Places facility, you will need to have a Master Locksmith Access Key (MLAK).
Master Locksmith Access Key
A limited number of Master Locksmith Access Keys (MLAK) are available from Albury to eligible residents at no cost.
MLAK is a universal lock and key system that allows people with a disability access to public facilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including wheelchair accessible toilets and Liberty swings.
Applications are restricted to people with disability living in the Albury LGA with a limit one key per applicant. The key is not transferable and is only to be used by the person to whom it has been issued.
Non-Albury residents can purchase a key for $25.00 from the Customer Service team at the Kiewa Steet office or the Lavington Library.
