In a decisive step toward addressing the growing issue of homelessness, AlburyCity will proceed with a plan aimed at guiding Council’s decision-making and advocacy, working towards a caring and healthy community with a stable place to call home.

Last night, Councillors voted to adopt the revised draft Albury Homelessness Plan 2025-2030, after considering submissions received during the public exhibition period.

The plan outlines a multi-faceted approach encouraging increased access to affordable housing (supporting Council’s previously endorsed Local Housing Strategy), advocating with other levels of government to ensure the needs of our region are met, and collaboration with local service providers to increase awareness and effectively deliver their services.

"We believe everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home," said AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack.

"This plan is not just about shelter - it's about support, opportunity, and lasting change.

“It involves a coordinated effort across different sectors and services, ensuring that individuals facing homelessness receive comprehensive support tailored to their unique circumstances.”

It’s recognised that preventing homelessness is a national issue. All levels of government and private organisations need to work together to reduce homelessness within their communities.

The adopted Albury Homelessness Plan 2025–2030 will guide Council’s decision-making and advocacy around services and projects relating to eliminating homelessness across the Albury Local Government Area.

The draft plan was developed in accordance with the Stakeholder Engagement Plan endorsed by Council in April 2024.

This included a roundtable with local services, a community survey and individual stakeholder meetings.

The draft Prevention of Homelessness Plan 2025–2030 was presented to Council in December 2024 and subsequently placed on Public Exhibition for 53 days ending 31 January 2025.

In response, the original title was changed from ‘Prevention of Homelessness Plan’ to ‘Albury Homelessness Plan’.

AlburyCity will also coordinate annual workshops which bring together key stakeholders to consider innovative approaches to support people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

A comprehensive annual Implementation Plan will be developed, with action plan highlights to be made readily available on AlburyCity’s website.
