Margaret lived across the road from the twenty-four grass courts of Albury Lawn Tennis Association and played with the boys who lived in her street. Margaret became determined to be the first Australian woman to win Wimbledon and achieved her ambition in 1963 and again in 1965 and in 1970. When she retired in 1977 Margaret had won 62 major tennis singles titles, the Grand Slam of tennis in singles and mixed doubles, 11 Australian, seven US and five French singles championships, a record that still stands today.
Lauren Jackson is considered Australia's greatest female basketball player of all time and unmatched for her focus and intensity, skill and athleticism. Born 11 May 1981, Lauren Elizabeth Jackson started shooting hoops at four years of age and through school and junior club competitions began to develop her skills as a very talented Centre. A teenage prodigy at Murray High School, 15 year old Lauren was offered a full scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. At 196cm tall, Lauren is currently a forward/centre with the Seattle Storm of the WNBA and the Australian national team The Opals. She has won national championships in the U.S., Australia, and Russia, as well as a World Championship. In 2011, she was voted in by fans as one of the Top 15 players in WNBA history.
