AlburyCity has adopted a clear and focused framework to guide its approach to advocating on behalf of the Albury community.
The AlburyCity Advocacy Strategy 2025–2028, adopted by councillors, builds on Council’s commitment to listen to the community and drive meaningful change through strong partnerships and targeted advocacy.
A public exhibition of the draft strategy attracted six formal submissions which informed minor amendments before the strategy was finalised and adopted.
Aligned with Towards Albury 2050 - the city’s long-term community vision - the strategy builds on past advocacy work and the momentum of successful collaborations such as the Two Cities One Community partnership with Wodonga Council.
Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said the strategy will play a vital role in securing positive outcomes for the city’s future.
"Adopting this strategy is about more than process - it’s about purpose. Our community has told us what matters, and this document ensures we have a focused and strategic approach to championing those priorities," Mayor Mack said.
"We’re talking about real issues that affect our daily lives - from housing affordability and better health services to climate action, business growth, and transport. This Advocacy Strategy positions us to be more proactive, more persuasive, and ultimately more successful in gaining the support and resources we need from State and Federal Governments."
The AlburyCity Advocacy Strategy 2025–2028 outlines AlburyCity’s approach to advocacy across a range of interconnected focus areas, including housing, mental health services, climate resilience, liveability and planning for the city’s future, financial sustainability, support for local industry, and improved transport infrastructure. It reflects the values and ambitions of a community that is connected, engaged and looking forward.
Mayor Mack said strong advocacy was essential in making sure Albury’s voice is heard.
"The most effective advocacy comes from working together. This strategy strengthens our ability to speak as one city with one voice, backed by partnerships, evidence and a deep understanding of our community’s needs. It ensures we’re not just responding to change - we’re leading it," he said.
The AlburyCity Advocacy Strategy 2025–2028 will guide Council’s efforts to influence public policy, attract investment and deliver the infrastructure and services needed to support a growing and thriving regional city.
