The ramps provide critical connectivity for businesses looking to invest at the NEXUS Industrial Precinct. By enabling quick, easy access to the Hume Freeway for freight carriers, NEXUS – which includes the Ettamogah Rail Hub - has effectively moved ‘closer’ to key marketplaces within a day’s drive of the point of manufacture.
In fact, the 450-hectare NEXUS site is perfectly situated at the centre of a hub with spokes leading to national and international markets in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and beyond – so by improving transport options to and from the site, we’ve taken another major step towards unlocking the full potential of this important industrial precinct.
Albury Wodonga also provides an enviable lifestyle and a talented workforce with plenty of room to grow – all factors that will help to attract major investment at NEXUS.
The completion of the freeway ramps on time and under budget is a great boost for the precinct and we look forward to working with investors to showcase the economic, social, and environmental benefits of the site.
The ramps were delivered with invaluable funding support from the Federal and NSW Governments and we’re very grateful to our government partners for sharing this vision for Albury’s future.
Thanks to the project coming in at an estimated $3M under budget, we’re now continuing our work with government to see if those savings can be used to make further improvements to our city. It’s encouraging to see this suggestion win the support of our Federal and State MPs, Sussan Ley and Justin Clancy, and we’re looking forward to working with them to potentially identify, plan and deliver projects that will further drive our city’s growth.
The first trucks that rumbled down the new ramps at last week’s official opening heralded more than just the start of improved logistics at NEXUS. They also signified the beginning of quieter, safer streets, with a marked reduction in heavy vehicle traffic expected on parts of Wagga Road and Thurgoona Drive.
The full impact of the ramps will become most evident when the new Thurgoona Link Road project is completed, which is another key component of our growth plans. It’s encouraging, however, to have already received terrific feedback from existing and potential NEXUS investors and it will be exciting to deliver the next phases of our growth strategy.
Thousands of new workers and their families will need homes, schools, roads, utilities and much more as our city continues to expand, and with a major employment base providing an engine room for that growth, we’re excited to be delivering those improvements needed by current and future generations.
Successfully delivering a project as significant as the Davey Road ramps is always a team effort and I’d like to thank everyone who’s helped to transform the project from idea to invaluable reality.
This is a project that will make our community an even better place to live, work, and invest and as we continue our growth journey together, we can all look forward to a prosperous and vibrant future for Albury and surrounds.
