The River is a thought-provoking abstract work which depicts the links between Albury’s cafe culture and the Murray River.
This sculpture was commissioned by The Albury Regional Art Gallery for Albury City and funded by The NSW Ministry for the Arts, The Albury Wodonga Regional Art Foundation, Colin Joss Pty. LTD and originally launched on 11 August 2003 by the Mayor CR Patricia Gould.
It sat outside the Regional Art Centre on Dean Street until it was removed because of the building works involved in creating MAMA. Because of the redesign of the Regional Arts Centre it could not be returned to the original location. It has been in storage until this point while a new location for it was found.
We have carefully chosen a new site for The River on the Corner of Dean Street and Creek Street. This site was chosen for it size and location. It is a prominent location and the size of the site seemed a perfect match for the sculpture.
