Finding Doctor Woods: His Films of Albury and Beyond

This exhibition features these newly acquired films along with stories, images and objects related to the Woods family.

Dr Leslie Samuel Woods, known as Sam (1896-1968) was one of 11 children of Dr William Cleaver and Margaret Woods of ‘Valetta’ in Swift Street. After completing his medical studies, Sam joined his father’s practice and spent 44 years as a local doctor. Sam went to Europe for post graduate studies in 1937. During this time he travelled extensively, recording his journeys on film and in letters home. Upon his return, he used his camera to record local scenes and civic and community events around Albury, as well as his children and family. Later, he also filmed his fishing holidays with friends at Merimbula on the North Coast.

Featuring these newly acquired films along with stories, images and objects related to the Woods family, this exhibition was on display at Albury LibraryMuseum from 21 September – 3 December 2023. However, you can still explore the exhibition in the virtual tour below. A few assembled excerpts from Sam’s films can be seen on YouTube Albury Libraries and Museum - YouTube
