Urban Forest Strategy – Implementation Working Group

An Implementation Working Group (IWG) is being established by AlburyCity to translate the newly endorsed Urban Forest Strategy (UFS) Action Plan into cost-effective work programs.

An Implementation Working Group (IWG) is being established by AlburyCity to translate the newly endorsed Urban Forest Strategy (UFS) Action Plan into cost-effective work programs to achieve the following UFS Goals:

Goal 1 – Protect and value our existing Urban Forest

Goal 2 – Grow our Urban Forest canopy cover from 13.2% to 30% by 2050

Goal 3 – Create a resilient urban forest

Goal 4 – Partner with our Community

Goal 5 – Enhance the capacity and capability to manage our Urban Forest

Accordingly, AlburyCity is seeking interest from members of the Albury community who wish to work closely with AlburyCity as part of the IWG. This group is complementary to the role and responsibilities of the AlburyCity Sustainability Advisory Committee but expands and enhances the work activities in the field of implementation of the urban forest strategy.

The IWG meetings will be held quarterly (February/May/August/November), commencing in August 2026.

As a committee member you are expected to:

  • act as a conduit for the dissemination of information between this group and the representative’s community networks to promote and raise awareness in the Albury community on the Urban Forest Strategy. This would be through a process that identifies, connects and promotes community participation in the Urban Forest Strategy Action Plan;
  • utilise your networks to garner the support of the Albury community on the enhancement and conservation of our urban forest, and to contribute in discussion and development of the work programs to achieve the goals of the strategy; and
  • provide the working group with a balanced appraisal of views and perceptions of the community in relation to matters pertaining directly to enhancement and conservation of our urban forest.

The community representative should:

  • have a keen interest to work closely with AlburyCity to deliver the UFS Action Plan;
  • have demonstrated community involvement and networks;
  • have commitment to be part of this working group for up to two years;
  • be pragmatic and innovative, understanding that there are limited resources in delivering this long term project;
  • have self capacity to utilise community networks to disseminate information on Council’s work in developing the works programs derived from the UFS, garner views of the community on the UFS, and to communicate a balanced appraisal of these views to the working group;
  • have self capacity to attend meetings of the working group; and
  • be a resident of the AlburyCity local government area.

In your one-page EOI please address how you meet the following criteria:

  • Description of your motivations to be a member on the Urban Forest Strategy Implementation Working Group; and
  • Demonstrable community connections you possess that can support the delivery of the Urban Forest Strategy.

Interested individuals do not need to possess detailed environmental or plant related knowledge, as various Subject Matter Experts are already members of the IWG. Rather the IWG community representatives should bring strong community connections and other key skills required for project management and delivering long term strategic objects across government and community in a collaborative manner.

Expressions of interest are to be submitted to AlburyCity by close of business 30 June 2026 and are to be addressed to the Service Leader City Landscapes and sent to:
